Modern Data Platforms

Canberra Data Centres (CDC) are a leading operator of sovereign, secure, world-class data centre facilities and the largest provider of data centres services to the Australian Government – all data centre facilities have achieved ‘Certified Strategic’ accreditation under the Federal Government’s recently announced hosting framework.

CDC are on a rapid growth trajectory, expanding its footprint from 13 to 20 data centres across 7 campuses situated in Australia and New Zealand – and is aligned with the Australian Government’s current and future strategic objectives in support of hosting nationally significant workloads.

As the business positioned for scale, CDC embarked on a digital transformation to support the scaled ways of working through an implementation of a new cloud-based CRM and ERP and ran a program to shift their ways of working.

The program impacted Finance, Legal and Risk, People and Culture and Security business areas among others and placed great demands on data interfaces, analytics assets, real-time platforms as well as associated information management, data governance and analytics.

Revenite were asked to conduct a discovery and an assessment of the current and target state assets and processes and provide a series of artefacts to help align CDC’s analytics needs to their broader cloud transformation endeavours.

Revenite has a proven stakeholder engagement framework that seeks to identify and engage with key contributors and stakeholders early. Through a series of surveys, interviews and workshops, initial discovery sessions took place to determine the current and anticipated needs of the business. These were followed by a thorough review of current state artefacts, architectures and processes with a heavy emphasis on data quality and governance across the entire stack.

A key nuance of CDC, being a customer centric and infrastructure supported organisation was the presence of qualitative survey and real-time streaming semi-structured data across the enterprise data estate.

This led to critical feasibility assessments with the aim to improve inter-departmental process alignment (with respect to analytics & data), and to identify areas for further discovery and investigation.

The detailed findings and recommendations spanned key identified business use cases with value metrics assigned, data exchange interfaces and integration patterns, access and security controls, DataOps and source code control, capability and roles as well as data quality and governance.

These outputs were mapped to a timeline and roadmap with options made clear to executive stakeholders and, in turn aligned to CDCs broader transformation strategy & organisational imperatives.

This engagement positioned CDC for long-term sustained growth and maturity across their entire digital landscape. Revenite continues to be engaged by CDC as a trusted partner.
