About Journey Early Learning

Journey Early Learning owns and manages a group of early childhood centres and education facilities across Australia. Journey Early Learning offers high-quality childcare and education services for children aged 0 to 6 years. They provide a safe and stimulating environment, engaging curriculum, and dedicated educators who support children’s holistic development.

The Challenge

Maximising centre utilisation, reducing family waitlists, minimising churn of customers & staff and managing wages efficiently have been identified as key measures in achieving the desired growth. In order to monitor these metrics and make business changes accordingly, Journey requires a modern data ecosystem. However, the business is operating on legacy technology and dated reporting processes that are no longer fit for purpose to service Journey’s current and future needs. They were unable to make data-driven decisions due to several issues:

No integration between key source systems (ChildcareCRM, Employment Hero & QikKids)
Ad-hoc and manual reporting processes in Excel are time consuming and prone to error
Inadequate data governance and security frameworks in place
Inability for the current solution to scale with business growth
Lacking internal capability to deliver data transformation
Low data maturity in the business

As the business aimed for significant growth over the next several years, the owners and IT executive identified an opportunity to invest in more modern reporting and analytics capability, scaling with business growth.

The Approach

Journey Early Learning partnered with Revenite to bring on board our expertise around data integration and consolidation, solution architecture design, platform implementation and automation of actionable data insights.

This was a bespoke greenfields data platform delivery. Revenite carried out a series of workshops and assessments to determine the business requirements, scope of data and systems, analysis of API’s and data sources. From this Revenite produced a Solution Architecture Design, Data Integration Design, Data Mapping and modelling and implemented a solution that integrated disparate source systems, established the foundations for self-service analytics, and reduced the need for manual and time-consuming development.

Revenite developed this platform for Journey in the Azure data ecosystem encompassing data integration through a metadata driven solution utilising Azure Data Factory, Data Storage in Azure SQL, Self-Serve modelling and reporting capability through Power BI Datasets and front-end interactive reports.

The solution automates end-to-end data integration and reporting as well as data auditing and alerts.

The Outcome

The built solution enables Journey to:

Forecast child enrolments
Optimise classroom attendance, and
Analyse the causes of staff attrition.
